da casino: Manchester United spent over £150m during the summer transfer window to take the likes of Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Eric Bailly and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Old Trafford.
da jogodeouro: Alongside the appointment of Jose Mourinho, United fans everywhere were beyond excited to see what the season ahead would hold having spent the past three years struggling and out of the title race.
Things haven’t gone as planned, though. The Red Devils sit in sixth position and a massive 14 points behind league leaders Chelsea, leaving them in a worse position than they were at this stage last year under sacked manager Louis van Gaal.
The fans can be forgiven for being frustrated. However, on the plus side, Man United’s form is on the up, and they remain they only Premier League side undefeated in their last ten games.
Unless they can make a phenomenal final push, a title challenge is all but out of the equation, so it looks as if top four is the agenda once again, but even that may be a push unless they invest again this January.
Here are FOUR signings we think Jose Mourinho should consider to ensure a top-four finish for his side…
Lassana Diarra
Lassana Diarra has to be one of the most well-travelled midfielders in Europe. The Frenchman has spent time at Arsenal, Chelsea and Portsmouth in England; played for Real Madrid in Spain; both Anzhi Makhachkala and Lokomotiv Moscow of the Russian top tier; and most recently Marseille in his home country.
Having already been linked with a move to Old Trafford earlier in the month, Diarra could bring some much-needed experience to United’s midfield, and perhaps, more importantly, compliment his compatriot Paul Pogba.
Not one for out-of-the-ordinary, the Frenchman goes about his business quietly, creating balance in the midfield.
Kieran Tierney
19-year-old Kieren Tierney has made quite the splash at Celtic this season and has become an integral part of Brendan Rodgers’ new-look side. His partnership down the left-flank with the man of the moment Scott Sinclair has been one of the shining lights in a near perfect campaign for the Hoops so far, with them only having dropped points once in the league.
Tierney’s performances have been far more mature than those of your typical teenager, with the defender offering fantastic cover while also being an attacking threat. It will only be a matter of time before Europe’s elite come calling, so Man United, who are said to be interested, should make their move early for one of the most promising talents in the UK.
Stefan De Vrij
Now in his third season with Lazio, De Vrij is picking up where he left off form-wise having picked up a horrible knee injury at the beginning of the 2015/16 season which sidelined him for eight months.
Such has been his remarkable return, that he has been valued at a whopping £52m, meaning any side interested in securing his services is likely to have to break the bank. Tottenham Hotspur are amongst those chasing the highly rated 24-year-old, but United have the financial punch to seal the deal if it came down to it.
