da betsson: Ryan Shawcross has been backed to replace John Terry in the England squad by his Stoke team-mate Asmir Begovic.
da cassino: Terry announced his retirement from international football on the eve of his disciplinary hearing this week and there is already speculation that Roy Hodgson will continue to ignore Rio Ferdinand. With Joleon Lescott also in danger of losing his first-choice status at Manchester City as well as Phil Jones and Chris Smalling being injured it could present an opportunity for Shawcross.
The 24-year-old Stoke skipper certainly has the support of his goalkeeper who has had a close-up view of the defender’s talents. And Begovic believes Roy Hodgson should consider awarding the former Manchester United trainee his first England cap. The Stoke keeper told the Stoke Sentinel:
“There is no-one better to fill that void now. Ryan has been a captain at our club for a long time and that speaks volumes for his leadership qualities. Hopefully, he will get a bit more consideration now and he will become a regular in the England squad. First and foremost Ryan is a quality defender and I think that is what some people tend to get away from these days.”
