da premier bet: Atletico Madrid are considering a summer move for Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, according to Don Balon.
What’s the word?
da esoccer bet: Pickford was one of many new faces that arrived at Goodison Park last summer.
The shot-stopper was part of Ronald Koeman’s spending spree, which surpassed the £100m-mark, but it did not manage to save his job as the Dutchman was sacked in October.
Pickford has impressed between the sticks and has fully established himself as a Premier League regular following his breakthrough at Sunderland.
It appears that the 24-year-old has caught the attention of La Liga as Don Balon reports that Atletico Madrid are pondering a summer swoop.
The Spanish publication claims that Diego Simone wants to bring in another goalkeeper due to the uncertainty surrounding the future of Jan Oblak.
The manager reportedly believes that Pickford would provide decent competition for Axel Werner, who is currently the club’s second-choice keeper.
Don Balon reports that Atletico may have to front up around £39.2m to get a deal over the line.
How should Everton respond?
Some of the club’s summer signings turned out to be flops, but this is not the case where Pickford is concerned.
The Washington-born player has not been able to make Everton’s season a success on his own, but he has certainly kept the club from being humiliated in a handful of matches.
As well as being the Toffees’ number one, Pickford is a realistic option for England’s top jersey at the World Cup in Russia.
If Everton want to continue building for next season then they need the former Sunderland stopper in between the sticks.
As long as Pickford maintains his form, there is no reason why he would not earn a move to a so-called ‘bigger’ club in the future.
