Tottenham swept Cardiff City aside on Tuesday night, and the performance of Danny Rose could be really bad news for Ben Davies.
It’s no surprise that Tottenham’s full backs have improved at the same time as the club embarked on an epic winning run packed with goals, as marauding full backs are a crucial part of Mauricio Pochettino’s game plan.
Kieran Trippier, Serge Aurier, Davies and even Rose have all come under intense scrutiny for their performances at times this season, but Rose showed on Tuesday that he is well and truly back to his best.
CheekySport’s Joel claims Spurs badly need to invest in January after not having “the balls” to beat Arsenal. Check out his uncensored opinion in the video below…
After captaining the Lilywhites in the Carabao Cup win over Arsenal, the 28 year-old was solid in the 5-0 win over Bournemouth and he topped it up with a display brimming with experience and quality in the 3-0 win at Cardiff.
Spurs shot out to a 3-0 lead within just 26 minutes, but it wasn’t exactly a perfect performance, and the hosts made life difficult for Pochettino’s defence at times.
Rose, helped by Toby Alderweireld, led by example though, making one particularly important clearance to deny Callum Paterson a golden chance in the first half.
The English international won four aerial duels in total, as well as leading the team in both tackles (three) and clearances (six).
He was no slouch going forward either, completing one dribble, one key pass, and just pinning Cardiff back with his aggressive but measure play.
Rose’s ability to keep his side on the front foot, remain solid in defence and provide genuine quality in the final third will prove vital as the club hunts for trophies this season, but it may just be bad news for Davies.
With Kyle Walker-Peters capable of playing on both flanks, Rose’s resurgence may end the Welsh international’s time as a Tottenham regular.
