da apostaganha: According to an exclusive interview with Football Insider, Noel Whelan has claimed that Wolves will bid again for Tammy Abraham this summer. However, they’d be making a massive mistake if they did.
What’s the word?
Pundit Whelan is insisting that Wolves are ready to make a fresh bid for Abraham, telling Football Insider: “I’m pretty sure Wolves will come in with a new bid. Nuno [Santo] is a big admirer of him and has been tracking him for some time.”
The striker is currently on loan at Aston Villa from Chelsea and is having a stellar season, scoring 25 times in the Championship.
He previously came close to signing for Wolves in January but eventually rejected the move. This was reportedly over fears he wouldn’t actually be able to play for them, having featured for two teams already in the 2018/19 season.
But it appears as though they may now look to revive their interest in the summer transfer window if Whelan is to be believed. At the moment, the 21-year-old is rated at £13.5m according to Transfermarkt.
Big mistake
Should Wolves table a new bid for Abraham then they’d be making a massive mistake. It’s no secret they could do with more depth in attack but considering the forward is after more game time, it’s unlikely he’d be happy playing second fiddle to Raul Jimenez.
Both players are similar builds and therefore a strike-force containing the pair of them wouldn’t make much sense. Diogo Jota and the Mexican are a perfect foil for each other and it wouldn’t be a good idea to split them up.
A Wolves fan shares his most gutting moment of the last 10 years supporting the club in the video below…
Wolves do need to add to their attacking reserves and Abraham would be a fantastic addition. But it’s difficult to see how he’d get regular game time.
After spending a club record fee of £30m on Jimenez, it’s unlikely the club would spend big money to sign a striker who’s only going to sit on the bench and as such, reviving their interest for Abraham would be foolish.
