Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to react after Ralph Hasenhuttl was beaten to the Premier League Manager of the Month award by Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp, with Nigel Pearson and Pep Guardiola the other nominees.
The former Borussia Dortmund boss picked up the award for a record fifth time this season – no other manager has ever won it this many times in one single campaign – after overseeing five wins from a possible five throughout January.
Klopp’s men only conceded one goal, while putting nine past their opponents.
In Hasenhuttl’s case, the former RB Leipzig boss deserves huge credit for what he did during January, overseeing a run of form that is arguably more impressive than what the former Borussia Dortmund coach managed given the difference in personnel between the two sides.
The Austrian led Southampton to three wins from four Premier League outings in January, claiming scalps against Tottenham, Leicester and Crystal Palace to leave them just six points off fifth-place, which is incredible given how they were looking destined for the drop following October’s 9-0 defeat to the Foxes.
Unfortunately for Hasenhuttl, however, the award has ended up in Klopp’s hands once again.
Let’s see how the Southampton fans on Twitter reacted to the news…
To kick off the reaction, these three supporters all used the word “robbed” to describe the situation.
Marlon said that they “expected nothing less” but admitted relief that the fabled “Manager of the Month curse” would not strike Hasenhuttl down.
Also, fans named Mark and Lewis expressed their displeasure at seeing Klopp win the award by saying “Ralph has been robbed” and “Hasenhuttl robbed” – they do not seem best pleased.
Elsewhere, Will Long conceded that “Klopp has done good” but Southampton’s revival under the Austrian “has to be rewarded” – you can see where this fan is coming from.
Lastly, Joe Blakey kept things short and sweet by simply saying that the award “should’ve gone Hasenhuttl” while Ed tweeted “…” as if to suggest he was lost for words with the decision.
If these Southampton fans were in charge of proceedings, you can have a pretty good guess at who would’ve been named Manager of the Month.
Someone’s got to own them: Who do these incredibly unwanted PL records belong to?
