da betobet: Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Per Mertesacker’s season is over, but feels that a raft of other players, including Jack Wilshere, are close to returning to action.
The Gunners have had an inconsistent campaign mainly down to key players being sidelined; the Germany international defender will have to wait until next term to play again.
“I believe Per will be out for the rest of the season,” the French coach told the club’s official website.
“Basically there are only six weeks to go so I don’t think he’ll be sharp enough to come back and play. He would need to train and get back to full fitness.”
Despite the blow, Wenger stated that Wilshere, Abou Diaby, Andre Santos and Francis Coquelin were all making strides to be considered for action in the near future.
“Jack’s scan was positive. There is no problem, it is normal evolution and he is continuing his progression.
“It’s too early to fix a date, though, we go day by day with him.
“Andre played 60 minutes for the reserves on Wednesday with no problem. Overall we are getting our players back so that is positive.
“Abou might play in the reserves next week at Liverpool. That game is on Tuesday night.
“Francis is two more weeks away from fitness,” he concluded.
Arsenal travel to take on Everton in their next fixture, which will be played at Goodison Park on Wednesday.
