9. Paul Robinson! The former England international’s goal was not that different than Howard’s but was shot from a different and more difficult angle. The then Spurs keeper’s shot first bounced in front of Watford’s Ben Foster and then into his net; the current West Brom keeper’s expression afterwards said it all.
8. Now to more recent bouts. Newcastle’s Papiss Cisse scored an unbelievable shot against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last year and gave the Magpies a 2-0 victory over the Blues who were just a few days away from the Champions League final. Cisse kicked the ball from the left flank with the outside of his right foot and the ball got an unbelievable curve and ended up on Petr Cech’s net. This goal amazed everyone, including Didier Drogba.
7. At number 7 we don’t have a long-distance goal but quite frankly an unexplainable one. It was Arsenal against Newcastle at St. James’s Park, just ten years before Cisse’s goal, where Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp scored an amazing goal. It was Robert Pires who laid the ball in for the Dutchman and then he turned the ball behind him, just outside the box, in such a perfect manner that left Nikos Dabizas looking around and then with his right foot scored an absolute beauty. 6. At number 6 we get an absolute screamer by one of the biggest legends to ever grace the Premier League. It was the same year as Bergkamp’s goal when Newcastle played Everton at the exact same pitch. It was just six minutes before the final whistle and a brilliant volley by Alan Shearer tied the game and prepared the Toon for an incredible comeback just four minutes later. Current Manchester United boss David Moyes told BBC after the match: “I thought Newcastle had tried everything and had nothing left”. For the sake of all Man Utd fans, lets’ hope he learned his lesson.

5. Back to the 90s now. Southampton were playing Newcastle at St. Mary’s Stadium ten years ago. It was then when Saints’ legend Matt Le Tissier kicked the ball over his head with his heel, kicked it slightly on the left of the upcoming defender then on top of the last one and then sent it to the Geordies’ net. You know, the kind of way Pele used to take care of business back in his days…
4. You all know this guy. Doesn’t matter if you were around when he was playing for West Ham, you have definitely heard of him lately when he became Sunderland’s newest manager. It was back in 2000 when the Hammers were playing Wimbledon in a home game where Trevor Sinclair made an amazing cross from the right all the way to Paolo Di Canio where he sent the ball to the net with a beautiful bicycle kick. Love him or hate him, that was a sick goal.
3. The idea for this list came out of an own-half goal which is what our next goal is all about. Four years ago Wigan played Stoke away in an uninspiring match but there was one goal that made us all remember that game. A free kick was given to Wigan after the break and that was when Maynor Figueroa shot the ball from his own half all the way to Thomas Sorensen’s post. That bout won Goal of the Season (2009-2010).
2. There was absolutely no chance of leaving David Beckham out of this list. Before Posh Spice, the 1999 Champions League, the arguments with Sir Alex, the World Cup incident, his goal against Greece, the Real Madrid and MLS contracts and all that charity work David Beckham started it all with an absolute beauty against Wimbledon. Becks hit a phenomenal shot from the halfway line and introduced his right foot to the entire world. The rest is history.

1. And so Football Fan Cast decided to grant the title of most unbelievable goal ever in the Premier League to… Xabi Alonso! Back in his Liverpool days, the Reds were playing Newcastle at Anfield. The current Real Madrid midfielder stole the ball from Charles N’Zogbia, moved it slightly forward while the referee was standing right in front of him (whoever has played football knows exactly how distracting that is), stopped the ball at the 70 yard range and with an unbelievable shot sent the ball to the back of the net. That was simply an indication of Xabi Alonso’s football brilliance as even though he was too far from the post, did not have a very good vision because of the distance and the referee and despite the fact that he didn’t take enough steps he still managed to give his shot so much power, velocity and accuracy to send the ball to the opposing goal. As the commentator said: “Would you believe it?”
