da fazobetai: Nathaniel Chalobah has joined Watford on a five-year deal after rejecting a contract at Chelsea, according to the London Evening Standard.
What’s the word?
da dobrowin: Watford confirmed the signing of Chalobah on Thursday, but opted against disclosing the fee.
The London Evening Standard claims that the Hornets parted with around £5m to sign the 22-year-old, who spent the 2012-13 season at Vicarage Road and made 42 appearances.
The publication states that Chalobah opted to turn down a fresh contract at Chelsea after spending 12 years of his career at the West London outfit.
The England Under-21 international joined the club’s academy in 2005 before graduating five years later and having loan spells at Watford, Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough, Burnley, Reading and Napoli.
During his lengthy time at Chelsea, Chalobah made 15 Premier League appearances.
Should Chelsea be concerned?
The English champions may need to peruse over their policy as they are in danger of losing plenty of young talent.
Reports that Chalobah rejected a new deal suggests that he was not going to get offered much game time in the first team.
Understandably, clubs competing for top honours want to have the best players possible in their squads, but it seems that other Premier League outfits still manage to bring in youngsters from the development sides.
Chelsea have a wealth of talent at their fingertips in the academy, but they need to offer more minutes in top-level football if they want to keep hold of their promising stars.
It is baffling that the club are working hard to produce good players, but are not giving them the platform to prove their ability.
Already this summer, Chelsea have sold Nathan Ake, Dominic Solanke and Bertrand Traore.
