da pinnacle: Leeds United took a £3m punt on a player that had never played in England before in Samu Saiz in the summer of 2017, and it is a signing that has certainly paid off for the Championship club.
Victor Orta brought the attacking midfielder to Elland Road from Huesca to try and boost their 2017/18 promotion bid, and he certainly made a big impression in the first few months of his career with the Yorkshire outfit.
A red card and subsequent six-match ban in January of this year took some of the shine off of his campaign and he has found goals and assists harder to come by since the turn of 2018, but he is still undoubtedly one of the in-form side’s most influential players.
It is no coincidence that the 27-year-old has been a regular starter under Marcelo Bielsa this term, and while he may have no goals and just two assists in 12 league appearances, it doesn’t mean he hasn’t played a crucial role for the high-flyers who look destined to be involved in the promotion race until the very end.
We at Football FanCast decided to ask Leeds fans to vote on our poll how much they think Saiz is worth in the current market, and as you can see from the results below the most popular of the chosen options was the 36% who voted for between £10m-£15m, with only 15% thinking he is worth less than £10m.
The Spaniard will certainly hope to improve his goal and assist tallies in the coming weeks and months, but whatever happens there is no doubt that because of the quality he has, he will continue to be a key player for the club under Bielsa.
