da casino: Leeds United loanee Lewis Baker was once again hauled off at half-time during a rare start in the 1-0 win against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday, and surely the Yorkshire outfit need to get rid of him during the January transfer window.
What’s the word, then?
Hopes would have been high when the Whites brought the talented 23-year-old to Elland Road on a season-long loan deal during the summer, but he completely failed to hit the ground running.
The former England U21 international quickly found himself behind the likes of Mateusz Klich, Adam Forshaw and Samu Saiz in the pecking order for a central spot behind the striker in a 4-1-4-1 formation, and he has only played 220 minutes of Championship football in total this term, as per Transfermarkt.
Baker was handed his first league start against Reading at the end of November, but just like against the Trotters at the weekend, he was also substituted off at the break following an anonymous display.
What does the future hold?
Well, it seems apparent following his latest outing that Baker is struggling to make an impression at Leeds and meet the demands of manager Marcelo Bielsa who clearly doesn’t fancy him, and in that case there appears to be little point in keeping him at the club.
The Yorkshire outfit are lacking depth in that attacking position following Saiz’s recent departure to Getafe, but rather than keep the Chelsea loanee they should try and cut their agreement short – something the Blues would surely be happy with considering his lack of game time – which would then allow them to sign another player before the upcoming window slams shut.
The Whites need a consistent player in that role if they are to keep their promotion hopes alive, with Klich going slightly off the boil in recent weeks compared to some of his performances earlier in the campaign.
