da bwin: Sheffield Wednesday are certainly in for an interesting 2020, if that’s one word for it.
The south Yorkshiremen are likely to still be waiting on punishment from the EFL after they charged the club with financial misconduct over the sale of Hillsborough stadium to their owner Dejphon Chansiri.
Although nothing is concrete, some form of points deduction or a hefty fine seems the most likely outcome, which could leave Garry Monk with an awful scenario on his hands come the end of the season.

To make matters worse, several of his core squad will see their contracts expire in the summer, meaning there is a strong possibility that the 40-year-old is soon tasked with a monumental rebuild job.
Seven of the 11 first-team players out of contract are over the age of 28, which only goes to show the transitional period ahead.
One is Sam Hutchinson, who has started nine games under Monk, often as an anchorman in midfield.
Whether or not his contract gets extended remains to be seen, but at the age of 30, he still has plenty in the tank – especially for the role he’s given in the side.

But the Owls already have a player primed to replace him; either in the summer or much later down the line after young midfield prospect, Liam Shaw, was sent out on loan to National League outfit Chesterfield.

Hutchinson acts as the bulldog in Monk’s midfield, averaging more tackles and more fouls per game than any other player via WhoScored, including defensive regulars Julian Borner and Dominic Iorfa.
“The reason I brought him in is that throughout the season I think one of our big problems is we don’t retain the ball long enough for longer periods. He’s got a good stature about him, I think he’s got a goal in him. He’s a young player and I love his enthusiasm. He wants to come and play. He’s got good physical presence about him.”
The former Owls midfielder highlights his physical ability which quite clearly matches up well to the 30-year-old while Wednesday’s official website cites him as being a dynamic box-to-box type, making him sound like an ideal match for the way Monk likes to play.
Now that Shaw is getting senior minutes under his belt, it will only boost his credentials upon his return.
Here’s hoping a wave of youthful exuberance soon sweeps through the Wednesday squad, they are the oldest in the division, after all.
Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday could be faced with a 12-point deduction at the very least after the club were charged by the EFL…
