Liam Cooper’s recent actions didn’t paint him in the best light, but his reaction to the incident against Fulham is commendable.
Cooper’s tweet explains the incident, and he’s gone a long way towards rectifying the situation by sending an apology alongside some gifts to the child.
That’s exactly what every footballer should do when they’re in the wrong, and Cooper is setting a good example not only to his teammates but also to supporters.
The maturity the defender has shown in holding his hands up and admitting his faults is admirable, and everyone could learn a thing or two from his attitude after being caught red-handed.
Of course, we can’t excuse speaking to a child in that way, and the original incident is something that doesn’t belong in football. However, this is an emotional sport, and while we don’t condone the foul language, we understand that there are few situations with as much pressure as playing in a professional match.
Cooper wasn’t right to do what he did, but it shows a will to win. He wanted to get the ball back as quickly as possible, and he was mature enough to then admit what he did was wrong and work towards rectifying the situation.
In other news, Phil Hay’s recent update on Che Adams may spell bad news for Leeds.
