da aviator aposta: Kevin Campbell has given his reaction to emerging Newcastle United injury news involving Callum Wilson.
The Lowdown: Wilson targets April return
da brwin: A source from St James’ Park has revealed to Football Insider that the 30-year-old has targeted a potential return when the Magpies play Norwich City on 23 April.
The striker has been suffering from a calf injury which has kept him out of action since January, and if he were to return against the Canaries, he would also be able to play in their last four games in the Premier League against Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Burnley.
The Latest: Campbell reacts to Wilson latest
Speaking to Football Insider, Campbell – who is also a pundit for Sky Sports – has since reacted to the news, claiming that Wilson’s return would be a ‘massive boost’ for Newcastle. The ex-Arsenal striker said:
“Newcastle will be looking to finish as high as possible.
“You never quite know what can be possible, to get Wilson back will be a massive boost. He’s worked with Eddie Howe before – he really knows how to get the best out of him.
“The only problem with Wilson has been his availability and his ability to stay fit. Maybe he’s come back too soon at times, but now he can afford to take his time with the pressure off a bit.
“Fingers crossed we’ve seen the back of those injury problems. On his day he’s as dangerous as anyone in the Premier League.
“They’ll keep pushing, and him coming back could just lift them into that top half – it’s possible.”
The Verdict: Big boost for Newcastle
The fact that Wilson could return before the end of the campaign is certainly a big boost for the Tyneside club.
The former Bournemouth striker still remains Newcastle’s top scorer in all competitions this season despite being out for a couple of months, so if the Toon do find themselves sucked back into a relegation battle come May, then his goals could be vital in keeping them in the top flight.
The last four matches all look tricky on paper, coming up against three of the current top four and two of those fighting for the Premier League title, while Burnley may need the points on the last day to keep them in the division.
Nonetheless, Howe would surely welcome Wilson’s return to the squad, as the 30-year-old may well be needed.
